Whoever is in charge of updating the Razorback softball record books is going to have a busy offseason. This is a team that is having one of its best seasons in hitting, fielding, and pitching.
Yesterday, we talked about the Razorback baseball team cracking the top-10 in several single-season categories. Today, it's time to have our minds blown by the other side of the Diamond Hogs coin.
How will this year's softball team be remembered? One word—spectacular.
1️⃣ Home Runs: This one isn't even close and we still have postseason play to factor in! Led by Braxton Burnside's school record 24 home runs, this team has hit 89 dingers... well above the current single-season record of 65 they got back in 2008.
2️⃣ RBIs: Braxton Burnside and Danielle Gibson have combined for 102 runs batted in, helping the team to a total of 255 in the regular season. By itself that's good for sixth-most in a single season, with the all-time record being 325.
3️⃣ Slugging: The Hogs are currently sitting at a .518 slugging percentage? The school record is .484.
4️⃣ Opponent's Batting Average: This team has a roster of pitchers to be feared. Opponents are hitting just .214 when facing the likes of Mary Haff & Co. If the season finished today, that'd be the third-best finish in program history.
5️⃣ Fielding: The defense is certainly doing its job, boasting a .974 fielding percentage. The current single-season record is .968.
Arkansas softball will be playing in the SEC Tournament next week. We'll be sure to update you as soon as we know the opponents and game times.
