DEFENSE WINS THE DAY
150 plays. That's how much action both sides of the ball got in this weekend's scrimmage for the Razorback football team.
Head Hog Sam Pittman said the defense won the day, but there were plenty of fireworks on offense (and solid kicking on field goal drills) to get excited about the Hogs in all three phases.
So... sit back, relax, and browse to your heart's content all the notes, observations, and highlights from practice this weekend:
▶️ Rushed Off Your Feet: Coach Pittman said after practice that the defense held the edge on the day in terms of controlling the energy in the last half of the scrimmage. And a big reason why was the (greatly) improved pass rush: "They did a nice job of rushing the passer. Tre Williams might have had two, three sacks. I know he had two and it may have been more. Those guys got after the quarterback."
▶️ Oh, Brother: But there were more than a few big plays from the offense on the day, including a 50-yard catch-and-run from Kendall Catalon. It might have come at the defense's expense, but little brother Jalen Catalon couldn't help but smile: "I was happy for him. As a defense, you want to succeed, but at the end of the day, I always celebrate for my blood, for my brother. When he does something good I’m always going to congratulate him."
▶️ Cam Little, Leg Big: The Hogs might be set at kicker for a long, long time as true freshman Cam Little nailed field goal attempts of 37, 46, and 52 yards in this weekend's scrimmage: "We had a hurry field goal situation the other day and it was 57 (yards) and he kicked it 65, I guarantee you ... I have a lot of confidence in him."
▶️ Foot In One's Mouth: Like any good athletic director, Hunter Yurachek wanted to visit the Razorback football team prior to their scrimmage—and came away with a cleat to the face while standing on the sidelines. And to dispel the rumors that Yurachek got injured in some other way (like... oh, I don't know... on a motorcycle or something) we have Coach Pittman to thank for the video evidence.
