Bully ball. That's how Head Hog Sam Pittman describes the style of play for their opponent in the season opener. And it's true—Rice was second in the country in time of possession last season, controlling the clock for just under 36 minutes per game.
We got to hear more about Rice in the lead up to Saturday's game about their style of play, what they're going to bring on offense, and more. Here are the highlights...
▶️ It Takes Two: Rice won't be naming a starting quarterback before the game, according to head coach Mike Bloomgren, who says both Wiley Green and Luke McCaffery prior to kickoff because the game plan is to use them interchangeably: "The people at Arkansas are going to see two quarterbacks this weekend because they both earned the right to do it. Also, they can do everything in our offense, but one of them is a little more dynamic when he’s running with the football."
▶️ Missing Their Best: The Owls lost defensive tackle De'Braylon Carroll for the season earlier in camp, but offensive tackle Myron Cunningham isn't taking that Rice defensive line lightly. It's still a formidable unit returning almost all of their starters: "They lost one of their D-tackles, who was probably their best D-lineman, but right now I'd say their ends are pretty good. They're hard workers on the edge. They have high motors."
Arkansas returns to the practice field tomorrow in the lead up to their season opener against Rice on Saturday, September 4th at 1:00pm.
